A bold proposal launched in 2018, AMPLIFY Digital Art Initiative connects women-identifying artists working in digital arts and electronic music across the Americas and the UK. Carrie Hage of the British Council Canada introduces the project—now returning to MUTEK Montréal for a third year—and five artists delve into the work they are presenting, whether in the online exhibition Distant Arcades or the festival’s performance program. Sol Rezza (AR), Edy Fung (UK), Vicky Clarke (UK), Tatiana Heuman (AR), and GLOR1A (UK) present their artistic practice and discuss the ways in which the pandemic and confinement are affecting their creative approach and the technologies they choose to work with. Viewers are invited to engage with the artists during a live Q&A; the goal is to create a space for shared experiences and generate discussion on the resourcefulness and creativity of those working in artistic domains. These artist presentations particularly bring to light the ways in which artists are adapting and presenting in virtual and hybrid formats.

The 2020 Amplify cohort consists of 20 artists from Argentina, Canada, and the UK selected by the British Council, Somerset House Studios, and MUTEK. More than 80 women have participated in the initiative, which debuted at MUTEK the same year the festival first achieved gender parity.

This activity takes place in English and Spanish.
It will remain available in the archives of the Forum’s online application until September 20.
