Automatisme is a Quebec-based electronic music producer who explores the intersections of drone, glitch, dub techno, ambient, electro-acoustic, noise, and digital art. He will present Alter-, a live audiovisual performance that is a deterritorialization of the beat and of the current natural and digital landscapes.

Automatisme — Alter-

Automatisme is the moniker of Quebec-based electronic music producer William Jourdain, Since 2011, he has more than 30 releases to his name that explore the various intersections of drone, glitch, dub techno, ambient, electro-acoustic and noise—as well as digital visual art in the form of abstract landscapes and Op Art aesthetics. Jourdain samples, processes, signal-bends, and transforms field recordings into soundscapes that lay out a broad spectrum spanning minimalist pulse, methodically additive beat, stacked-tone maximalism, spatial drone, and arrhythmic ambient and noise. He has delivered solo performances in Canada, France, and Germany—including at MUTEK Montréal in 2014 and 2017, as well as at Sulfure, GENERATE!, Knobs & Wires, Octandre, and Le Guess Who?. He has also performed experimental club gigs alongside Byetone, Monolake, Seefeel, thisquietarmy, Myriam Boucher, and more. In 2019, he completed a studio residency at EMS Elektronmusikstudion, the Swedish centre for electroacoustic music and sound art.

Automatisme will present Alter-, a live audiovisual performance grounded in his 2020 album of the same name. It is a deterritorialization of the beat and of the current natural and digital landscapes. Alter- explores the physical and digital worlds, the breaking of boundaries, and the creation of alternate timelines.
